We prioritize limited distractions, so when swim lessons are in session, they are typically the only activity taking place in the pool at that time. Private lessons truly mean private—no other classes are scheduled in the pool during your session, except in very rare circumstances.
Our facility features a warm saltwater pool, providing a comfortable experience with no blue lips, no harsh chlorine smells, and a more enjoyable learning environment for swimmers of all ages.

Pua
Swim School Manager
Pua is Idaho Dive Pirates’ beloved shop dog and official pool supervisor. She keeps a watchful (and friendly) eye on pool sessions, especially with our youngest divers, making sure everyone feels safe, calm, and welcome. Equal parts greeter, morale booster, and kid-approved cuddle expert, Pua helps make every visit to IDP a little more fun.

Ashley Stewart
Scheduler and Instructor
Ashley’s passion for aquatics began in high school, where she taught swimming lessons and worked as a lifeguard at the Ashton City Pool. Those early years on the pool deck laid the foundation for a lifelong commitment to water safety, instruction, and leadership.
As a co-founder of Idaho Dive Pirates, Ashley serves as the Swim Lead, overseeing swim program scheduling and operations. When her schedule allows, she is also actively teaching swim lessons, ensuring each student receives quality instruction and a positive experience in the water. In addition to her swim leadership role, Ashley is an Assistant SCUBA Instructor with SSI, sharing her knowledge both on the surface and underwater.
Known for her calm, capable approach, Ashley is the person who keeps everything running smoothly. Whether managing the swim program, keeping the scuba shop open, or supporting instructors and students, she brings confidence, experience, and a steady presence to every situation. When she’s not behind the scenes making it all work, Ashley can be found enjoying her time on the pool deck—right where she started.

Stella
Lifeguard
Stella, Idaho Dive Pirates’ Lifeguard, takes her job very seriously—but fair warning: she also requires a steady supply of head rubs. Once you rub her head even once, you’ve entered an unspoken agreement to continue until you leave the building. There are no exceptions.
With a coat as soft as a baby blanket and a calm, watchful presence by the pool, Stella keeps an eye on our swimmers and divers while happily accepting her well-earned attention. Safety first… head rubs a very close second.

Janae Shaffer
Instructor
Janae has had a lifelong passion for the water. She began teaching swimming lessons in 1998 at her family’s pool at Green Canyon and has continued teaching ever since. Alongside her years of swim instruction, she worked as a lifeguard and later became a lifeguard instructor during college. She is also a certified American Red Cross Swimming Instructor.
In high school, Janae competed at the state level in swimming. After graduating from college, she became a high school teacher and swim coach, where many of her athletes went on to compete at state competitions.
Today, Janae teaches middle school in Idaho Falls, continues to provide year-round swim lessons, competitive swimming and shares her love of the water as an SCUBA Instructor with Idaho Dive Pirates.
It goes without saying that Janae loves the water and is passionate about teaching—whether in the pool, the classroom, or under the surface on a scuba dive.
